Privacy & Terms

No account needed. The main site has no sign-up requirement and no user profiles — you can use everything on it without telling us who you are. The one exception is the embedded Neighborhood Locator, which offers an optional sign-in described below; we hold account data only if you choose to create one.

No analytics or advertising trackers. We do not run Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any comparable third-party tracking script. (The features described below make network requests to the services that power them, but none of those are advertising or analytics trackers.)

No tracking cookies. The site does not set tracking cookies. Your browser may store some data locally (for example, which logo variant to show, and — in the Neighborhood Locator — your saved preferences and sign-in session). That data lives on your device and is not sent to us except as described in the Neighborhood Locator section below.

Standard server logs.The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which automatically processes routine request data such as IP addresses, user-agent strings, and timestamps to deliver pages and protect against abuse. We do not maintain a separate log database, and we do not use this information to build profiles of visitors. Cloudflare's handling of this data is governed by its own privacy notice.

The Neighborhood Match includes an optional chat that helps you find a neighborhood that fits your situation. To generate replies, the messages you type — and any preferences you share in the conversation, such as life stage, budget range, vibe, must-haves, where you work, and commute tolerance — are sent to Google's Gemini API. This is required for the chat to work.

Once your messages reach Google, they are subject to Google's own privacy practices and AI usage terms, which we do not control. Google may process, log, or use that input under its own policies. Please review Google's policies before sharing anything you would not want a third party to see, and avoid entering sensitive personal information (such as financial account numbers, government IDs, or health details) into the chat.

We do not store your chat transcripts on our own servers, and we do not link them to an identity. Your conversation lives in your browser tab and is gone when you close it.

The Locator page embeds our Neighborhood Locator, an interactive tool for exploring neighborhoods. It works fully without an account. It also offers an optional sign-in — with Google, with Apple, or with an email address and password — provided through Google Firebase Authentication.

If you sign in, the preference profile you build in the Locator — such as life stage, budget range, vibe, must-haves, where you work, saved favorites, and any free-text notes you type — is stored with your account in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore) so it can sync across your devices. Firebase is a Google service, and data stored there is processed by Google under its own terms and privacy practices. As with the chat, please avoid entering sensitive personal information in free-text fields.

If you use the Locator as a guest, those preferences and favorites are saved in your browser's local storage instead. They stay on your device, are not sent to us, and persist until you clear them or your browser data.

You can delete your Locator account and the preference data stored with it at any time by emailing us at [email protected].

Some features let you type an address to see information about that block or neighborhood. When you do, the address you type is sent directly from your browser to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim geocoder (nominatim.openstreetmap.org), a public service, to find its map coordinates. We do not log or store the addresses you look up.

The resolved coordinates are then used in queries sent from your browser to DataSF(data.sfgov.org), San Francisco's open-data platform, to fetch nearby public records. Both services are operated by third parties and handle requests under their own policies.

We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not share information with advertisers, data brokers, or marketing partners. The only third parties that necessarily see request data are the infrastructure providers used to deliver the site:

• Cloudflare — hosting, content delivery, and basic abuse protection.
• Google (Gemini API) — generating replies in the Neighborhood Match chat, when you choose to use it.
• Google (Firebase Authentication & Cloud Firestore) — optional sign-in and preference syncing in the Neighborhood Locator, if you choose to create an account.
• OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) — resolving addresses you type into map coordinates, when you use address lookup.
• DataSF (data.sfgov.org) — fetching public records near a looked-up location.

We may disclose information if we are legally required to do so (for example, in response to a valid subpoena), but given how little we hold, there is generally nothing meaningful to produce.

The site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has shared information with us, please contact us and we will take reasonable steps to address it.

The main site keeps no accounts or user records, so there is generally no profile for us to access, export, or delete. If you created an account in the Neighborhood Locator, you can have it — and the preference profile stored with it — deleted at any time by emailing [email protected]. For any other question or request — including a request related to data Google may hold from a chat session — please reach out using the contact information below, and we will help where we can.

If this policy changes in any meaningful way, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, note the change in the project's public source repository.

Your SF is an independent, open-source civic project. It takes publicly available documents about San Francisco and presents them in interactive form. It is operated by Open Form LLC.

The site is not affiliated withthe City and County of San Francisco, the Board of Supervisors, the Office of the Mayor, the Controller, the Budget & Legislative Analyst, the Planning Department, the Assessor-Recorder, any city agency, any political campaign, or any elected official.

Content on the site — including budget breakdowns, neighborhood summaries, and chat responses — is for general civic and informational purposes only. It is not legal, financial, real-estate, tax, medical, or other professional advice. Decisions that matter (where to live, how to vote, how to interpret a policy) should rely on the official source documents and, where appropriate, qualified professionals.

We do our best to reflect the underlying public documents accurately, but the site is provided on a best-effort basis and may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information. The canonical source is always the official document, which we link to where possible.

The Neighborhood Match chat is generated by a large language model (Google Gemini). It can be wrong, biased, or out of date, and may produce inaccurate or misleading statements (“hallucinations”). Treat its responses as a starting point, not a verdict, and verify anything important.

By using the site, you agree not to:

• Use the chat or any other feature to harass, defame, or harm others.
• Attempt to break, overload, scrape at abusive rates, or otherwise interfere with the site or its underlying services.
• Use automated systems to send chat traffic in volumes that would not be typical of an individual visitor.
• Submit content that is illegal, infringing, or that you have no right to submit.
• Misrepresent the site as official communication from any government body or campaign.

The site's code is open source and released under the license noted in the public source repository. Underlying public documents (budget materials, agency reports, etc.) remain the property of their respective publishers; we present them in a format meant to be more accessible, and link back to the original wherever practical.

The “Your SF” name and brandmark are used to identify this project. Please do not use them in a way that suggests endorsement or affiliation that does not exist.

Some features rely on third-party services — notably Google's Gemini API for chat, Google Firebase for the Neighborhood Locator's optional accounts and preference syncing, OpenStreetMap's Nominatim geocoder for address lookup, DataSF for public records, and Cloudflare for hosting. Your use of those features is also subject to the terms and policies of those providers. We are not responsible for the availability, content, or behavior of third-party services.

The site is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or current.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Open Form LLC and anyone contributing to Your SF will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, revenue, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the site — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the site is limited to one hundred U.S. dollars (US$100).

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Open Form LLC and its members and contributors from any claims, damages, or expenses arising out of your misuse of the site or your violation of these terms.

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising under these terms will be brought in the state or federal courts located in the City and County of San Francisco, California, and you consent to that jurisdiction.
